About the Author

Lucian Kim has been covering Ukraine and Russia since Vladimir Putin’s first term in office. Over 25 years of journalism, he has reported from North Korea, covered Afghanistan before 9/11, and analyzed the motives of Russia’s leadership. He spent more than 20 years as a correspondent in Moscow and Berlin, reporting on Central and Eastern Europe for National Public Radio, Bloomberg News, and The Christian Science Monitor. As a Wilson Center fellow in Washington, D.C., he began working on this book. He is currently a Ukraine analyst at the International Crisis Group.
