Technical Session: Drones and safety in Threat Environments

This practical session is designed to help participants better understand how drones are used in hostile environments and how drone-related risks directly affect movement, positioning, and field safety decisions.

Event Details:

  •  Date: June 20, 2026
  • Location:  Kyiv
  • Duration: 3 hours

What are the conditions?

  •  Register

We encourage media professionals to apply who:

  • Have at least two (2) years of professional experience covering the Ukrainian-Russian conflict for local and/or international press;
  • Are currently working in high-risk or conflict-affected areas or are planning to travel to such areas;
  • Are employees of Ukrainian media organizations or freelancers.

Training Structure

The module combines hands-on demonstrations with operational explanations of how FPV and reconnaissance drone systems function in real conditions. Participants will explore different drone types, common threat patterns, basic detection principles, and the role of telemetry and live video transmission during drone operations.

A key part of the session focuses on understanding “what the operator sees.” Through practical examples and demonstrations, participants will learn how drone operators identify movement, vehicles, exposed positions, heat signatures, and environmental patterns — and how these factors influence targeting and surveillance.
The training translates technical drone knowledge into practical safety behavior, helping participants make safer decisions regarding:

  •  movement in open and urban environments
  •  positioning and concealment
  • use of cover and terrain
  • reactions during suspected drone activity
  • reducing visual and behavioral exposure
