Journalists play a crucial role in informing our public and policy makers!

On September 28, the Safety Space of 2402 Foundation hosted a presentation of the book "The War Came to Us: Life and Death in Ukraine" by Financial Times correspondent Christopher Miller. The event, organized in collaboration with "Fabula" publishing house, gathered an audience interested in a more detailed exploration of events in Ukraine
The presentation became an important platform to discuss events that changed the lives of Ukrainians, including the Revolution of Dignity, the annexation of Crimea, and Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022. Christopher Miller shared his observations and experiences, which he also included in his book, allowing readers to form a deeper picture of everything the author experienced while reading the book.

Special attention was paid to the topic of the importance of journalists' work in the combat zone:

“Journalists play a crucial role in informing our public and policy makers. The work they do to bring the news to readers, particularly in dangerous environments like the frontline in Ukraine, is fundamental to democracy and our society.” — the author emphasized.

During the event, Christopher also read excerpts from his work - this sparked a discussion among those present, as participants had the opportunity not only to hear about events firsthand but also to ask questions to the author to delve deeper into the context of the described events.

"Journalists are the eyes of truth! That's why this presentation was not just a literary event. It's a reminder of the importance of freedom of speech and the safety of those who guarantee this freedom through their daily work," — noted Iryna Pryhor, Communication Manager of 2402 Foundation.

The event concluded with a discussion on the importance of continued support for initiatives aimed at ensuring the safety of journalists in combat zones. It served as a vivid example of how literary events can transform into platforms for important social discussions and charitable initiatives, uniting people around shared values and goals.

Also at the presentation, a charitable initiative was announced: 30% of the proceeds from the sale of each book during the event were directed to the "First Aid Kits for Ukrainian Journalists" campaign. The aim of this campaign is to purchase first aid kits and tourniquets for journalists and media workers operating in dangerous conditions.

“I’m very grateful to the 2402 Foundation for organizing such a wonderful event in Kyiv and to the many people who came out to discuss Ukraine’s past, present and future as part of my book release. As a foreign correspondent, it’s important for me to hear the impressions of Ukrainians and for all of us to share our experiences and perspectives.” - Christopher Miller.

2402 Foundation expresses sincere gratitude to all participants of the event for their support and active civic stance. It is now important to emphasize the continued support for journalists who risk their lives daily for the sake of uncovering the truth.
