WHAT WE DO? 

We design and conduct safety trainings (tactical medicine, risk assessment, digital security, mental resilience, and many more), safety audits and consulting, to increase people’s preparedness for crisis situations and risks. 

We develop standards for safety in media industry and civil society, and integrate safety in curriculum of educational institutions. 

WHAT WE HAVE ACHIEVED SO FAR?

Since 2022, we have trained more than 3000 journalists, media professionals, documentarians and humanitarian workers who work in frontline zones in Ukraine, with safety, first aid, and resilience skills. This training program proved to be highly effective and impactful (you can access results of the independent evaluation study here). 

We developed an innovative and engaging Mental Resilience training program to boost resilience skills among Ukrainian media workers, and already started scaling it up to wider groups of population, ready to scale internationally.

We partnered with prominent experts and media and civil society organizations, among them: Dart Center for Trauma and Journalism (Columbia University), Reporters Without Borders, Free Press Unlimited, Committee to Protect Journalists, People in Need, Suspilne (Ukraine’s Public Broadcasting Company), Insight NGO, Kyiv Pride NGO, Ukrainska Pravda, Radio Free Europe, National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, and many more. 

Our network of proactive and prominent civil society actors, journalists, humanitarian workers, leaders, and partners is growing, with at least 3600 direct contacts being engaged in various activities. 

We have prepared a launch of the Safe&Sane online platform where we deliver our training, workshops, and resources digitally so that broader public can access it. To be launched in April 2025.

We are a general member of the Global Forum for Media Development, along with more than 120 organizations.

We are signatories to the Mental Health in Media Pledge via Self Investigation, which unites more than 130 institutions and experts worldwide.

We also signed the ISO Code of Ethics for Risk Management via PECB.

1. HEFAT Programme for Journalists, Editors, and War Documentarians — Supported by the Justice for Journalists Fund (Great Britain), January 2024 – January 2025.
2. Integration of Virtual Reality Scenarios into Safety Training — In collaboration with Head Set Immersive, supported by Digital Defenders (Netherlands), 2024.
3. HEFAT Programme for Civic Activists — Supported by People in Need (Czech Republic), 2024.

7. Ukrainian Journalists’ First Aid Kit Campaign — Fundraising to activate donors and donations, supported by Free Press Unlimited, Committee to Protect Journalists, and a group of the organization’s ambassadors. May 2024 – February 2025.
8. Workshop Countering online attacks for Ukrainian editors and journalists — with International Women in Media Foundation, 2024.
9. Holistic Mental resilience program for journalists and newsrooms in Ukraine — Supported by UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, (Great Britain), in partnership with Dart Center for Trauma and Journalism, 2024-2025.
10. Sakartvello SOS — online consultation sessions to ensure safety of civil society actors and journalists in Georgia before elections, — in partnership with NGO Insight, 2024.

Other Activities:

– Public lectures and key note speeches, internationally (USA, Great Britain, Canada, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Estonia, Ukraine and many more).

– Personal Protection for Journalists: Adapting and delivering body armour, helmets, and tactical first aid kits to Ukrainian newsroom staff working in conflict zones, as well as providing technical equipment.

–  Localization of Useful Materials: Adapting international resources for local audiences.

– Video Courses and Content Digitalization: Covering topics such as tactical medicine basics, first aid kits, and risk assessment fundamentals.

– Designing New Standards of Safety for Media Professionals, in partnership with Association of of First Aid and Tactical Medicine Operators and Instructors, 2024-ongoing.

–  Consultancy Project for the Christian Aid, NGO (Great Britain): 2023-2024.

–  Corporate organizational safety training with various newsrooms, networks and organizations, ongoing.

– First Aid Combo Programme: Combined first aid training for the general public in Ukraine.

– Consultations on Risk Assessment, Digital Security, and Physical Safety in Ukraine and globally.

Our activities help participants:

🛟 Save lives and health: Knowledge of safety basics and skills in risk assessment and management can save lives and reduce the risks of physical and mental injuries, and will also make organizations more resilient to serious challenges.

💁🏻‍♀️ Increase the level of professional competence: Educational programs contribute to improving qualifications, making professionals more prepared for unforeseen situations and stressful conditions.

😌 Reduce the level of panic and stress: Knowledge and skills of mental resilience and risk management help to remain calm in critical situations, which is key to a quick and effective response, and also helps to build more effective long-term strategies.

❤️‍🩹Strengthen trust in the profession: The public has more trust in journalists and public figures who are able to act professionally and responsibly in extreme conditions, demonstrating their competence and preparedness. 

🌐 Raise awareness of the general level of security: Public figures, humanitarian workers, and journalists who have received training in the basics of security usually spread this knowledge among their colleagues and other people with whom they interact, which contributes to an overall increase in the level of security in society.
