November 2 — International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists

The International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists was established by a UN General Assembly resolution in 2013. The date of November 2 was chosen in memory of two French journalists who were killed in Mali in 2013.

This international day is dedicated to critically important issues in protecting press freedom: it draws global attention to crimes against journalists, strengthens the fight against impunity for such violations, emphasizes the need to protect media workers, and honors journalists who have suffered or died for their professional activities.

This date reminds us of the fundamental role of free press in a democratic society and the duty to protect those who risk their lives for the truth.

Every case of a journalist being captured is not only a violation of international humanitarian law but also an attempt to silence the voice of truth about Russia’s war crimes.
